A separate seat was never built for royal visits, however. Specially designed for such occasions, and most often in the residences of the richest Elbląg burghers, distinguished guests were put in interiors of the Old Town Hall.
A new King-Władysław Zygmunt was elected in 1632. The king was to be paid tribute. The city council reached a settlement with Isaac Spiering whereby the responsibility to host the king in his own home would be taken over. This is how the house of the Spierings as the “Royal House” started its history. Additional royal immunity reinforced the right of welcoming esteemed visitors, which was not stripped from the royal house until 1914.
